Before the convergence had a name, Jeff spent three decades automating the information layer of American business mail. This is the record the rest of the story stands on. Move through the eras:
Cambridge, Massachusetts
Jeff Peoples founds Window Book in Cambridge in 1988 — a software company built on a simple conviction: the mail that moves American business should run on information, not paper trails. BA in Economics from CU Boulder (1984) in hand, he starts building the automation layer for an entire industry.
The software behind the mail
DAT-MAIL becomes the post-presort preparation engine of the USPS ecosystem — Intelligent Mail, electronic documentation, Full-Service compliance. When the Postal Service goes digital, Window Book is already there, and the industry’s biggest mailers run on it.
$39.5 billion in postage statements
By its peak, Window Book’s software has produced over $39.5 billion in postage statements — throughput, the flow of American commerce passing through its systems — and enabled roughly 10,000 businesses. Jeff’s framing: over half of all American business mail has been produced by Window Book clients using its information automation software.
60 people, three countries
The company grows to 60 full-time people across three countries — engineers, postal experts, and client teams serving thousands of businesses, while Jeff becomes a fixture of the industry’s stages and a requested speaker at direct marketing, mailing, and shipping events nationwide.
Acquired by BlueCrest — March 2022
